The Hauppauge Consumer Infrared Receiver allows your computer to receive infrared signals from a compatible remote control. Its driver translates those signals into commands that Windows and your applications can understand, making it easier to control media players, TV tuners, and menu navigation from a distance. This package is suitable for systems running Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7.

Key Features

  • Provides the necessary HID-compliant support so the Hauppauge Consumer Infrared Receiver is recognized correctly in Device Manager.
  • Delivers responsive decoding of infrared remote commands for everyday navigation and media control.
  • Supports installation on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7.
  • Helps resolve issues where the receiver appears as an unknown device or fails to respond to remote presses.

How to Install

  1. Save the driver package for the Hauppauge Consumer Infrared Receiver to a convenient folder on your PC.
  2. Extract the contents if the file is compressed. In Windows 11 or Windows 10, right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All; on Windows 8 or Windows 7, use the built-in extraction wizard.
  3. Plug the Hauppauge Consumer Infrared Receiver into a free USB port. If it is already connected, unplug it and plug it back in after the driver files are ready.
  4. Open Device Manager, right-click the receiver entry, select Update driver, then choose Browse my computer for drivers and select the extracted folder. The receiver may appear with a yellow warning icon under Other devices before the correct driver is installed.
  5. Complete the prompts, reboot if Windows requests it, and then test the receiver with a supported remote control application.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or exits early: Unplug the Hauppauge receiver, run the WinTV/IR installer as administrator, and reboot before reconnecting. If Windows blocks the driver, check Hauppauge’s package for the correct Windows version rather than forcing an unrelated IR driver.
  • Device not detected: In Device Manager, look under Human Interface Devices or USB controllers for an unknown device. Try a rear USB port directly, not a hub, and reconnect the receiver. Reinstall the Hauppauge IR driver if it shows a warning icon.
  • Version conflicts: Remove older Hauppauge/WinTV IR software and other remote-control drivers first. In Device Manager, uninstall the receiver and delete its driver, then reinstall the matching package. If Windows Update replaces it, roll back to the Hauppauge driver.
