The Epson NX400 driver allows Windows to communicate with your printer, helping it process print jobs and apply the settings you choose. Installing the appropriate Epson software also gives you access to device-specific controls that a basic Windows printer setup may not include.

Key Features

  • Print settings for everyday tasks: Adjust paper size, media type, print quality, and color options for documents, schoolwork, and photos.
  • Device-specific communication: Helps Windows send print data correctly to the Epson NX400 and recognize its available printing functions.
  • Maintenance controls: Compatible Epson software may provide nozzle checks, print head cleaning, and alignment tools to help troubleshoot missing colors or uneven output.
  • Scanning support with additional software: The NX400 is an all-in-one printer, but scanning may require a separate Epson scanner driver or utility rather than the printer driver alone.

How to Install

  1. Check your Windows version. Confirm whether your computer runs Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, and check its system type where applicable. Choose a package explicitly listed as compatible with your operating system; older NX400 packages may not support every Windows version.
  2. Download the appropriate driver. Verify that the download is intended for the Epson NX400. If you need scanning as well as printing, check whether the package includes scanner software or whether a separate installation is required.
  3. Prepare the printer. Turn on the NX400, load paper, and clear any visible printer errors. For a USB installation, leave the cable disconnected until the installer asks you to connect it, unless the package instructions say otherwise.
  4. Run the installer. Open the downloaded file, approve the Windows permission prompt if it appears, and follow the setup instructions. Connect the printer directly to the computer when prompted, then allow installation to finish.
  5. Verify operation. Open Windows printer settings, select the Epson NX400, and print a test page. If you installed scanning software, try a scan separately. Restart the computer if requested.

If no compatible Epson package is listed for your Windows version, check whether Windows Update can supply a suitable printer driver. Avoid assuming that a driver made for an older version will work on Windows 11; basic printing support may also offer fewer controls than Epson’s full software.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or stalls: Disconnect the Epson NX400, run the Epson installer as administrator, and remove any partial Epson NX400 entries in Apps & Features before retrying. Temporarily disable antivirus if it blocks the setup.
  • Device not detected: Connect the NX400 directly to a USB 2.0 port, not a hub. Try another USB cable, power-cycle the printer, check Device Manager for unknown devices, and restart the Print Spooler service.
  • Version conflicts or scanner missing: Uninstall older Epson NX400 software and the generic Windows printer driver, reboot, then install the full Epson package matching your Windows version. Set the NX400 as default and test scanning separately.
