The Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K is a PCIe video capture and playback card, rather than a conventional graphics processor. Its driver, included in Blackmagic Design’s Desktop Video software, enables Windows and compatible video applications to communicate with the card for recording, monitoring, and output.
Key Features
- Video capture and playback: Provides access to the card’s HDMI and analog connections in supported software, allowing you to work with compatible cameras, playback equipment, and displays.
- Supported video formats: Enables capture and output in supported SD, HD, and Ultra HD modes, including Ultra HD up to 30 frames per second. Available modes depend on the connection, source signal, and application settings.
- Device configuration: Includes Desktop Video Setup for selecting available input and output options and checking whether the installed hardware is recognized.
- Application integration: Supplies the device support required by compatible editing, capture, and monitoring tools. Application compatibility varies with the Desktop Video release.
How to Install
- Check Windows and software compatibility. Confirm your Windows version and system architecture before choosing a download. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, select a Desktop Video release that explicitly supports both your operating system and the Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K; one installer may not cover every listed version.
- Prepare the hardware. If the card is not already installed, shut down the computer, disconnect power, and fit it into a compatible PCIe slot according to the hardware manual. Start Windows and close any video applications.
- Run the installer. Extract the downloaded package if necessary, then launch the Desktop Video installer with administrator privileges. Follow the prompts and approve the required driver components.
- Restart and check detection. Reboot when requested, then open Desktop Video Setup to confirm that the card appears. If the software requests a device update, let it finish without interrupting power and follow any additional restart instructions.
- Configure and test. Connect your video source or display, select the appropriate connection, and choose a supported video format in your application. Make a short test capture or playback check to verify picture and audio.
If the card is detected but no picture appears, check that the selected input matches the connected cable and that the source resolution and frame rate are supported. HDMI sources using HDCP copy protection cannot be captured.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Uninstall any existing Blackmagic Desktop Video/Intensity driver, reboot, temporarily disable antivirus, then run the latest Desktop Video installer as administrator. Close Blackmagic apps and capture software during setup.
- Device not detected: Power off, reseat the Intensity Pro 4K in its PCIe slot, confirm it appears in Device Manager, and try another slot if needed. Install Desktop Video before opening capture software; check BIOS PCIe settings and avoid risers/adapters.
- Version conflicts or missing capture modes: Remove older Desktop Video versions and other Blackmagic capture drivers, reboot, and install one matching Desktop Video release for Windows. Don’t mix beta and release installers; after updating, open Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup to confirm firmware and input format.
