The Blackmagic DeckLink WDM Streaming driver allows compatible Windows applications to access supported Blackmagic Design DeckLink video hardware through the Windows Driver Model (WDM) interface. It helps connect your capture hardware to software used for video recording and streaming. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a Blackmagic Desktop Video package that explicitly supports both your operating system and DeckLink model.

Key Features

  • WDM application access: Provides an interface for compatible capture and streaming programs to recognize and use supported DeckLink hardware.
  • Video capture support: Enables software to receive video from available hardware inputs, with supported connections, resolutions, and frame rates determined by your DeckLink model.
  • Desktop Video integration: Installs as part of the appropriate Blackmagic Design software package, which can include drivers and utilities for configuring supported hardware.
  • Hardware communication: Helps Windows communicate with the installed DeckLink device. Although sometimes listed under GPU drivers, this component serves professional video capture hardware rather than general-purpose graphics acceleration.

How to Install

  1. Check your hardware and Windows version. Identify your exact DeckLink model and confirm your Windows edition and system architecture. Package compatibility varies, and newer releases may not support Windows 8 or Windows 7.
  2. Download the matching package. Select a Blackmagic Design Desktop Video installer whose release notes list support for your hardware and operating system. Avoid choosing a driver based only on the “WDM Streaming” device label.
  3. Prepare for installation. Close recording, editing, and streaming applications. If the package instructions require removal of an earlier Desktop Video version, uninstall it first and restart when prompted.
  4. Run the installer. Open the downloaded installer with administrator permissions and follow the setup prompts. Allow the required driver components to install, then restart Windows if requested.
  5. Verify capture access. Check that the hardware appears in Device Manager and, where applicable, Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup. Open a WDM-compatible application, select the DeckLink capture source, and match its video settings to the incoming signal.

If the device is detected but no picture appears, check the input connection, signal format, and application compatibility before reinstalling. Installing the driver does not guarantee that every capture program can use every DeckLink model or video mode.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or rolls back: Uninstall any previous Blackmagic Desktop Video/WDM driver, reboot, close capture apps, then run the latest Desktop Video installer as administrator.
  • Device not detected in WDM apps: Check Device Manager under “Sound, video and game controllers” for the DeckLink entry. In the app, explicitly select “DeckLink WDM Streaming” as the source and set the correct input/format; reinstall Desktop Video if the WDM device is missing.
  • Version conflicts or dropped frames: Keep the DeckLink WDM driver and Desktop Video package on the same version; avoid mixing beta and stable releases. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall the matching package, and ensure only one app opens the DeckLink input at a time.
