The Motorola USB Modem driver helps Windows recognize the modem and communicate with it over USB. It provides the interface needed for compatible software to use the modem’s connection functions. Before downloading a package for Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, confirm that it supports your specific Motorola modem model and Windows version.

Key Features

  • USB device recognition: Allows Windows to identify a compatible Motorola USB Modem and load the appropriate device components.
  • Modem communication support: Enables supported applications and Windows connection tools to exchange commands and data with the modem.
  • Device management: Makes it possible to check the modem’s status, view driver information, and troubleshoot detection issues through Device Manager.
  • Connection setup support: Provides the driver foundation for configuring a modem connection, where supported by the hardware, software, and service provider.

How to Install

  1. Check your modem and Windows details. Locate the modem’s model number on its label. Check your Windows version and system architecture so you can choose a matching driver package. Compatibility can vary between Motorola USB modem models.
  1. Download the appropriate driver. Select a package that explicitly lists your modem and operating system. A driver intended for Windows 7 or 8 should not be assumed to work on Windows 10 or 11 unless compatibility is confirmed.
  1. Extract and run the installer. If the download is compressed, extract it first. Open the setup program, approve the Windows permission prompt if requested, and follow the instructions. Connect or disconnect the modem when the installer directs you to do so.
  1. Use Device Manager if no installer is included. Connect the modem, open Device Manager, and locate its entry, which may appear under Modems or Other devices. Right-click it, select Update driver, then choose Browse my computer for drivers and point Windows to the extracted folder.
  1. Verify detection and configure the connection. Restart your computer if prompted, then check that the device appears without a warning icon. Complete any connection settings required by your modem software or service provider. If detection fails, try another USB port and recheck the driver’s model and OS compatibility.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails (Code 10/28 or unsigned driver): Run the Motorola installer as administrator and use a Motorola-signed package. In Device Manager, remove any failed “Motorola USB Modem” entry, reboot, then reinstall before plugging in the modem.
  • Device not detected / no COM port: Try a different USB data cable and a rear direct USB port, not a hub. Check Device Manager under “Modems” and “Ports (COM & LPT)”; uninstall unknown devices, rescan, and confirm the modem is not in charge-only mode.
  • Version conflicts (Code 31/39): Uninstall existing Motorola modem drivers and select “Delete driver software” in Device Manager. Reboot, install the latest Motorola package, then reconnect the modem and verify the assigned COM port.
