The Avid Mbox 2 driver allows Windows to communicate with your USB audio interface for recording and playback. It helps compatible audio software access the Mbox 2’s inputs and outputs, so you can work with microphones, instruments, and connected monitoring equipment.

Key Features

  • Audio input and output access: Makes the interface’s recording and playback channels available to supported applications.
  • ASIO support: Enables compatible digital audio workstations to use the Mbox 2 through an ASIO driver for low-latency audio work.
  • Recording configuration: Provides access to supported audio settings, such as buffer size and sample rate, through compatible software or driver controls.
  • Hardware communication: Supplies the device-specific components Windows needs to recognize and use the interface correctly.

How to Install

  1. Check the driver’s compatibility notes. Before downloading, confirm that the package is intended for the Mbox 2—not the Mbox 2 Mini, Micro, or Pro. If you use Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, verify support for your exact Windows version and system architecture. This is legacy hardware, so newer Windows releases may not have officially supported drivers.
  2. Prepare your computer. Close your recording software and other audio applications. Disconnect the interface before starting unless the driver’s instructions say otherwise. Remove an older driver only if the installation guidance recommends it.
  3. Run the installer. Extract the download if necessary, launch the setup program, and approve the Windows administrator prompt. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Connect the Mbox 2 and restart if requested. Use a direct USB connection where possible, then allow Windows to finish detecting the hardware.
  5. Select and test the interface. Open your audio application and choose the Mbox 2 as its audio device, using ASIO where supported. Check playback and record a short test to confirm that your inputs work.

If the interface is not detected or audio drops out, check the USB connection and try a larger audio buffer. Confirm driver compatibility before attempting repeated reinstalls, particularly on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
