The Avid Mbox Pro driver connects your audio interface to Windows so recording software can access its audio inputs and outputs. Installing the appropriate Avid driver helps your computer recognize the hardware and supports reliable audio recording, playback, and monitoring.

Key Features

  • Audio input and output access: Makes the Mbox Pro’s recording and playback channels available to compatible audio applications.
  • ASIO support: Allows compatible digital audio workstations to communicate with the interface using a driver designed for low-latency audio work.
  • Adjustable audio settings: Provides access to supported sample-rate and buffer settings, helping you balance monitoring responsiveness against system stability.
  • Hardware communication: Enables Windows and compatible software to work with the interface rather than relying on a generic audio driver.

How to Install

  1. Check your device and Windows version. Confirm that your interface is the Avid Mbox Pro, not another Mbox model. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, review the selected driver package’s compatibility notes before downloading; older releases may not support every Windows version.
  2. Prepare the computer. Close your recording software and other audio applications. If replacing an existing driver, follow Avid’s removal instructions when required. Keep the interface disconnected until the installer or included instructions tell you to connect it.
  3. Run the installer. Extract the downloaded package if necessary, launch the setup program, and approve the Windows permission prompt. Follow the installation instructions to add the driver and any included control software.
  4. Connect the Mbox Pro. Use the appropriate FireWire connection and power supply, then allow Windows to detect the interface. Restart the computer if prompted. Your computer also needs a compatible, functioning FireWire controller.
  5. Configure and test audio. Open your recording application and select the Mbox Pro’s Avid ASIO driver where available. Choose the required inputs and outputs, set a suitable buffer size, and test playback or a short recording before starting a session.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Installer fails or rolls back: Disconnect the Mbox Pro, run the Avid installer as administrator, and temporarily disable antivirus. Remove any older Mbox/Mbox Pro driver with the Avid uninstaller, reboot, then install the correct 64-bit package for your Windows version before reconnecting the interface.
  • Device not detected: Use a known-good FireWire cable and a Texas Instruments-based FireWire card; avoid cheap adapters. In Device Manager, try the legacy 1394 OHCI driver, confirm the Mbox Pro is powered on, and reconnect after Windows boots. Test another FireWire port/card if it remains missing.
  • Version conflicts/Pro Tools errors: Uninstall mismatched Avid/Pro Tools and Mbox Pro drivers, remove duplicate Mbox entries in Device Manager, reboot, and reinstall the matching driver version. Keep only one audio driver active and avoid installing newer Pro Tools drivers over older Mbox packages.
