The DATAQ DI 145 (COM3) driver enables Windows to communicate with the connected data acquisition device so compatible software can access it. If the unit appears as an unknown device or your acquisition application cannot find it, installing the appropriate driver from the manufacturer may resolve the connection issue.

Key Features

  • Device recognition: Helps Windows identify the DATAQ DI 145 and associate it with the correct driver rather than leaving it listed as an unrecognized device.
  • Communication support: Provides the connection interface used by compatible data acquisition software to communicate with the hardware.
  • COM port identification: Allows you to check the assigned communication port in Device Manager. Although the device name includes COM3, Windows may assign a different port on another computer.
  • Windows installation options: Choose a manufacturer-provided driver package suitable for Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, checking its compatibility notes and system requirements before installation.

How to Install

  1. Confirm your Windows version. Open your system information and check whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit. Select a driver package that explicitly supports your operating system and the DI 145 hardware.
  2. Download and prepare the driver. Obtain the package from the manufacturer or a verified source, then extract it if necessary. Read any included instructions, especially those specifying when to connect the device.
  3. Run the installation. Launch the setup utility and approve the administrator prompt if requested. If the package contains only driver files, open Device Manager, locate the device, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted folder.
  4. Connect and verify the hardware. Connect the DATAQ DI 145 as directed by the manufacturer. In Device Manager, confirm that it appears without a warning symbol and note its assigned COM port.
  5. Check your acquisition software. Open a compatible application and select the detected device or communication port where required. If communication fails, confirm that the selected port matches Device Manager and that another application is not already using it.

The driver handles hardware communication; it does not replace the acquisition software needed to configure measurements or record data. If Windows assigns a port other than COM3, use that assigned port in your application rather than assuming the driver installation has failed.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Driver install fails: Run the DATAQ installer as administrator, close WinDaq and any DATAQ utilities, and allow the manufacturer-signed driver if Windows prompts. Reboot before reconnecting the DI-145.
  • Device not detected or COM3 missing: Check Device Manager for the DI-145 USB serial port. Try a direct USB 2.0 port and a known-good cable. If Windows assigns another COM port, set WinDaq/your software to that port instead of COM3.
  • Version conflicts: Uninstall older DATAQ drivers and WinDaq versions, remove unused COM ports in Device Manager, then install the latest DI-145 driver package. Keep WinDaq and driver versions matched, and reboot after changes.
