The HDR CX240 driver provides the software bridge that allows a Windows PC to recognize the camcorder over a USB connection. Once installed, the operating system can access the device properly, making it possible to import videos and still images without repeated connection failures or detection issues.
Key Features
- Adds reliable USB device recognition for the HDR CX240 on Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7.
- Supports steady transfer of recorded video and image files from the camcorder to local storage.
- Helps resolve common “USB device not recognized” errors and dropped connections during file import.
- Works with standard Windows import tools and compatible video management applications.
How to Install
- Download the HDR CX240 driver package for your version of Windows and save it to a folder you can easily locate.
- Turn on the camcorder, switch it to playback or USB connection mode, and connect it to the computer using a compatible USB cable.
- Extract the downloaded files if the package is compressed, then right-click the driver installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and allow Windows to complete the installation when prompted by security dialogs.
- Restart your PC, reconnect the HDR CX240, and confirm the connection in Device Manager or your preferred video import software.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or stalls: Disconnect the HDR-CX240 before running the driver installer, close Sony PlayMemories/Imaging Edge and Windows Camera, then run the installer as administrator and reconnect only when prompted. Set the camcorder’s USB Connect option to Mass Storage if installation does not complete.
- Camcorder not detected: Use the supplied USB cable directly into a rear USB port, not a hub. Power the HDR-CX240 on, select Mass Storage/MTP in USB Connect, and check Device Manager under Portable Devices or Imaging Devices. Try another cable/port.
- Driver version conflicts: Uninstall older Handycam/Sony USB drivers and any previous driver package, show hidden devices in Device Manager, remove greyed-out camcorder entries, reboot, then install the current driver once and let Windows finish setup.
