The FTDI Icom IC 775DSP IC 910 de EA7CTL (COM5) driver enables Windows to communicate with an FTDI-based serial interface used for Icom radio control. It provides a virtual COM port that compatible radio-control software can use to exchange commands with the connected equipment. When choosing a download for Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, check that the package supports your Windows version and interface hardware.

Key Features

  • Virtual serial port access: Makes the FTDI interface available as a COM port so compatible applications can communicate with the radio.
  • Radio-control connectivity: Supports the serial connection used by software for functions such as frequency and operating-mode control, where supported by the radio and application.
  • Windows device management: Allows you to check the interface’s status and assigned port number in Device Manager. Although this device is labeled COM5, Windows may assign a different number.
  • Serial interface support: Provides the communication layer for the control cable. Despite the Audio category, this driver does not itself add sound playback, recording, or USB audio capabilities.

How to Install

  1. Check the download’s compatibility. Confirm that the FTDI driver package supports your installed Windows version—Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7—and the appropriate system architecture. Use a trusted source and review any included instructions.
  2. Prepare the connection. Close radio-control applications. If the package instructions require installation before connection, leave the interface unplugged until prompted.
  3. Install the driver. Run the supplied installer and follow its prompts. If the download contains driver files without an installer, extract them, open Device Manager, select the interface, and choose Update driver followed by Browse my computer for drivers.
  4. Connect and verify the interface. Attach the cable to a working USB port. In Device Manager, check Ports (COM & LPT) for the FTDI serial port and note its assigned COM number. Restart Windows if requested.
  5. Configure your radio software. Select the detected COM port and set the radio model, baud rate, and other communication parameters to match your equipment. If communication fails, check the cable connections and ensure another application is not already using the port.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or COM5 is missing: Run the FTDI VCP driver installer as administrator, reboot, and check Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT). If the FTDI device has a yellow warning, uninstall it including the driver, then reconnect the USB cable.
  • Icom software cannot open COM5 / device not detected: Close other programs using the port, confirm the correct COM number is selected in your Icom CI-V/control software, try a different USB port and cable, and avoid unpowered USB hubs.
  • Version conflicts after a Windows update: Remove old FTDI drivers, install the current signed VCP driver, and avoid mixing D2XX/VCP packages. If COM5 is assigned to another device, change the FTDI adapter to a free COM port.
