The ACS ACR30 is a USB smart card reader that uses a driver to communicate with Windows and compatible card-reading software. The ACS COMPRO driver helps the operating system recognize the reader and gives supported applications access to connected smart cards. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a driver package that matches your Windows version and system architecture.
Key Features
- USB device recognition: Helps Windows identify the ACS ACR30 as a smart card reader rather than an unknown USB device.
- Application communication: Provides the connection between the reader and compatible software used for smart card operations.
- Driver setup and recovery: Can help restore device recognition when the driver is missing, incorrectly installed, or affected by a system change.
- Windows integration: Supplies the device-specific support needed to use the reader on a compatible Windows installation.
How to Install
- Check your Windows configuration. Open your system information to confirm the Windows version and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. Verify that the selected package lists support for your configuration and the ACS ACR30.
- Download and prepare the driver. Save the package to an accessible folder. If it is compressed, extract its contents before starting installation.
- Follow the supplied installation instructions. Run the setup program if one is included, approving administrator access when prompted. Connect or disconnect the reader when the installer instructs you to do so.
- Use Device Manager if no installer is provided. Connect the reader, locate its entry, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder. Do not force installation if Windows reports that the driver is incompatible.
- Confirm operation. Restart Windows if requested, then check Device Manager for warning icons. Test the reader with a supported smart card and compatible application.
The driver alone does not include every application or card-specific component you may need. If Windows recognizes the reader but your card cannot be used, check the software and middleware requirements for that card.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Run the ACS installer as administrator and match it to your Windows architecture. If Windows blocks it, use the signed ACS package or temporarily disable driver signature enforcement, then reboot and retry.
- Reader not detected: Try another USB port/cable and avoid unpowered hubs. Check Device Manager for unknown/USB device entries, install the ACR30 driver before reconnecting, and confirm the Windows Smart Card service is running.
- Version conflicts: Uninstall existing ACS/CCID smart-card reader drivers and remove hidden device entries, reboot, then install only the ACR30 package. If Windows Update keeps reinstalling an older ACS driver, block driver replacement for this device.
