The ACS USB CCID Smart Card Reader from ACS COMPRO connects compatible smart cards to your PC through USB. Its driver allows Windows and supported smart-card software to communicate with the reader for tasks such as certificate-based sign-in, digital signing, and identity verification. Select the driver package that matches your version of Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 and your system architecture.
Key Features
- USB CCID communication: Provides the connection between the reader and Windows using the Chip Card Interface Device standard.
- Smart-card software integration: Enables compatible applications to access the reader through Windows smart-card services. Some cards may also require separate middleware or certificate software.
- Device recognition: Helps Windows identify the ACS USB CCID Smart Card Reader and make it available to applications that use smart-card authentication.
- Windows driver options: Supports installation on Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7 when you choose a package intended for your operating system and hardware.
How to Install
- Check your Windows configuration. Open your system information to confirm the Windows version and whether your installation is 32-bit or 64-bit. Verify that the selected driver package lists your reader and operating system.
- Download and prepare the driver. Save the compatible package to your computer. If it is a compressed archive, extract its contents before continuing. Close any applications currently using the smart-card reader.
- Run the installer. If the package includes a setup program, launch it and approve the administrator prompt when requested. Follow its instructions about when to connect or disconnect the reader.
- Use Device Manager if necessary. For a package without an installer, connect the reader, open Device Manager, and locate it under Smart card readers or Other devices. Right-click the device, choose Update driver, then browse to the extracted driver folder.
- Confirm operation. Restart Windows if prompted, then check that the reader appears in Device Manager without a warning icon. Insert a compatible smart card and test it with your intended application.
If Windows recognizes the reader but your application cannot use the card, check the application’s middleware and certificate requirements. A working reader driver does not replace card-specific software, credentials, or access permissions.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Run the ACS driver installer as administrator, match it to your Windows version/architecture, and unplug the reader until installation finishes. If Windows blocks the driver, install the signed ACS/CCID package rather than forcing an unsigned one.
- Device not detected: Check Device Manager for “Unknown device” or errors under Smart card readers. Try another USB port without a hub, reseat the cable, and confirm the Windows Smart Card service is running.
- Version conflicts: Remove older ACS/CCID drivers and vendor smart-card middleware, reboot, then install the latest package. Avoid mixing the Windows generic CCID driver with ACS middleware unless ACS documentation specifies it.
