The PGR Firefly2 driver enables Windows to recognize and communicate with this Point Grey Research camera through its IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connection. Installing the appropriate driver helps compatible imaging software detect the camera and access it for image capture. Choose the package intended for your operating system: Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, or XP.
Key Features
- IEEE 1394 connectivity: Provides the device-level support needed for communication between the PGR Firefly2 and a compatible FireWire-equipped computer.
- Camera recognition: Helps Windows identify the connected camera so supported applications can locate it.
- Image acquisition support: Allows compatible Point Grey Research software to communicate with the camera for capture and configuration.
- Windows-specific installation: Offers a driver option for the supported Windows versions; check the individual package details for the correct OS and 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version and connection. Confirm your operating system and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. Make sure the computer has a working IEEE 1394 port or compatible FireWire adapter, along with the correct camera cable.
- Select the matching driver package. Review the download details to verify that the package lists the PGR Firefly2 and your Windows version. Avoid using a package intended for a different Point Grey Research camera or connection type.
- Prepare for installation. Close camera and image-capture applications. Extract the downloaded archive if necessary, and read any included instructions for requirements or a specific camera connection sequence.
- Install the driver. Run the supplied installer with administrator permissions and follow its prompts. If the package contains driver files rather than an installer, use Device Manager’s driver update option to browse to the extracted folder. Restart Windows if requested.
- Connect and verify the camera. Connect the Firefly2 as directed by the package instructions, then check Device Manager for detection errors. Open compatible imaging software and confirm that the camera appears and can capture an image.
If the camera is not detected, check the FireWire cable, available power, and IEEE 1394 controller status before reinstalling. Camera software or an SDK may be required separately; the driver alone does not necessarily include a capture application.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or driver won’t load: Run the FlyCapture/PGR installer as administrator and use a version compatible with your Windows release. If Windows blocks the legacy FireWire driver, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement, install, then re-enable it.
- Firefly2 not detected: Confirm the camera is powered (6-pin FireWire or external supply) and connected directly to a working 1394 OHCI port—avoid hubs. In Device Manager, check for the camera/1394 adapter and try the legacy 1394 OHCI driver if needed.
- Version conflicts after upgrading: Uninstall older FlyCapture SDK and Point Grey drivers, remove hidden/ghost devices in Device Manager, reboot, then install one supported FlyCapture version before reconnecting the camera.
