The 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO driver connects this 3D navigation controller to Windows, allowing compatible design applications to use its motion sensor and programmable controls. Installing the appropriate 3Dconnexion software helps you navigate models and assign shortcuts for a more comfortable CAD or 3D modeling workflow.
Key Features
- 3D navigation support: Enables pan, zoom, and rotation in compatible applications, giving you a dedicated way to position models while using a standard mouse for selection and editing.
- Adjustable motion settings: Lets you tune navigation sensitivity and direction preferences to suit your working style.
- Programmable controls: Provides button assignments for frequently used commands, with application-specific options where supported.
- Device configuration: Includes settings for managing the controller and supported SpacePilot PRO functions. Available features depend on the driver release and the application you use.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version. Choose a driver package that explicitly supports both the SpacePilot PRO and your operating system. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, verify the individual package’s compatibility notes rather than assuming one installer covers every version.
- Download the matching package. Confirm that it is intended for this device and your Windows system type. A newer 3Dconnexion software release may not support older hardware, so check the supported-device list.
- Prepare for installation. Save your work and close CAD, modeling, and other applications that may use the controller. If replacing an existing driver, follow the package instructions for upgrading or removing the previous version.
- Run the installer. Open the downloaded setup file, approve the Windows permission prompt, and follow the on-screen instructions. Connect the controller to a USB port when directed, and restart Windows if requested.
- Configure and test. Open the installed 3Dconnexion settings utility to check that the device is recognized. Adjust motion sensitivity, assign useful button commands, and test navigation in a compatible application.
If navigation works in the settings utility but not in your design software, check that application’s 3D mouse support and any required integration components. Driver compatibility and application compatibility are separate checks, particularly when using a legacy controller with a newer Windows installation.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or stalls: Remove any older 3Dconnexion/3DxWare package first, reboot, then run the SpacePilot PRO driver installer as administrator. Disable antivirus blocking only during install if needed.
- Device not detected: Connect the SpacePilot PRO directly to a rear USB 2.0 port, not a hub, KVM, or docking station. Check Device Manager for a 3Dconnexion HID entry and try another USB port/cable.
- Version conflicts with CAD apps: Close all CAD applications before installing or updating 3DxWare. After install, restart the app and update its 3Dconnexion plugin; keep only one 3DxWare version installed.
