The EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor driver enables Windows to recognize the fingerprint reader and communicate with it for biometric input. Installing a compatible driver can help resolve detection problems and make fingerprint sign-in available when supported by your computer’s hardware and software.

Key Features

  • Fingerprint reader recognition: Provides the device-specific support Windows needs to identify and use the EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor.
  • Biometric software integration: Allows compatible Windows sign-in features or manufacturer-provided fingerprint applications to access the reader. Available options depend on your system configuration.
  • Support across Windows versions: Driver packages are available for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7; select a release that explicitly matches your operating system and hardware.
  • Troubleshooting support: Installing the appropriate driver may resolve a missing biometric device, driver-related errors in Device Manager, or communication issues after a system reinstall.

How to Install

  1. Confirm your system details. Check your Windows version and system architecture, such as 32-bit or 64-bit. In Device Manager, look for the fingerprint sensor under Biometric devices or Other devices. If necessary, check its hardware IDs to confirm that the driver matches.
  1. Choose a compatible package. Download the driver intended for your exact sensor and Windows version. Prefer a package supplied or approved by your computer manufacturer, especially if your laptop requires customized biometric software.
  1. Extract and run the installer. If the download is compressed, extract it first. Launch the setup application with administrator permissions and follow the prompts. If no installer is included, open Device Manager, right-click the sensor, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder.
  1. Restart and check device status. Restart your computer if prompted, then return to Device Manager. Confirm that the fingerprint reader appears without a warning icon. If installation fails, verify compatibility before trying another package.
  1. Configure fingerprint sign-in. On supported Windows 11 and Windows 10 systems, open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and check for Windows Hello Fingerprint. Windows 8 and Windows 7 may require the manufacturer’s biometric application or additional components. Follow the enrollment instructions; you may also need to create a PIN or retain a password as a backup sign-in method.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Installer fails or rolls back: Run the EgisTec package as administrator and temporarily pause antivirus. Remove any older EgisTec/Elan fingerprint driver in Device Manager (Biometric devices) and Programs and Features, reboot, then install the package matching your Windows version/architecture.
  • Sensor not detected / Windows Hello missing: In Device Manager, check Biometric devices and View > Show hidden devices. If unknown device, reinstall chipset/USB drivers, verify the fingerprint cable/internal USB connection, and enable fingerprint device in BIOS if present. Avoid USB hubs for external modules.
  • Version conflicts after Windows Update: If Windows replaces the driver or Hello stops working, roll back in Device Manager > Properties > Driver, or uninstall the generic driver and reinstall EgisTec’s signed version. Then remove and re-enroll fingerprints in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
