The NaturalPoint TrackIR 5 is a head-tracking device that lets you control your view in compatible games and simulations by moving your head. Its driver and TrackIR software allow Windows to communicate with the sensor, translate tracked movement into in-game camera motion, and give you control over tracking behavior.

Key Features

  • Six degrees of freedom: Enables compatible titles to respond to head rotation and positional movement, letting you look around, lean, and shift your viewpoint naturally.
  • Adjustable response profiles: The accompanying TrackIR software lets you customize sensitivity and motion curves to suit different games, seating positions, and personal preferences.
  • Tracking setup tools: Provides visual feedback to help you check whether the sensor can see your tracking clip and identify interference from bright lights or reflective objects.
  • Center and pause controls: Allows you to configure shortcuts for recentering your in-game view or temporarily pausing tracking without disconnecting the device.

How to Install

  1. Check compatibility before downloading. Select a NaturalPoint TrackIR software package that supports your version of Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7. Check the package requirements, since newer releases may not support every older Windows version.
  2. Prepare your computer. Close any running games and TrackIR software. If you are replacing an existing installation, follow the installer’s upgrade instructions rather than manually deleting driver files.
  3. Run the installer. Open the downloaded setup file, approve the Windows permission prompt, and follow the on-screen instructions to install the TrackIR application and required device components. Connect the sensor when instructed.
  4. Position and verify the hardware. Place the TrackIR 5 sensor near the top of your display, connect it to a USB port, and position your compatible tracking clip where the sensor can see it. Open the software and confirm that head movement appears in the tracking preview.
  5. Configure and test tracking. Select the correct tracking clip type, choose or adjust a profile, and set a convenient center shortcut. Start a TrackIR-compatible game, enable head tracking if required, and test your view controls.

If tracking is unavailable after installation, restart Windows, try another USB port, and confirm that the TrackIR software detects the device before launching your game. For unstable movement, check the sensor’s line of sight and reduce nearby sources of infrared interference.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or hangs: Unplug the TrackIR 5 camera, close TrackIR and games, run the NaturalPoint installer as administrator, temporarily disable antivirus, and remove older TrackIR/NaturalPoint software before rebooting and reinstalling.
  • Device not detected: Connect the camera directly to a rear USB 2.0 port, avoid hubs, check the camera LED, and open TrackIR software before launching the game. If still missing, reinstall the USB driver and test another PC.
  • Version conflicts or no in-game tracking: Uninstall stale TrackIR software and outdated game profiles, install the latest official NaturalPoint release, then start TrackIR before the game. Confirm the game has native TrackIR support and no other app is using the camera.
