The Melco USB ATA ATAPI Bridge Controller connects an ATA or ATAPI storage device to a computer through USB. Its driver helps Windows identify the bridge and communicate with the attached hardware, allowing compatible storage devices to be accessed through the operating system. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a driver package that explicitly supports your Windows version and system architecture.
Key Features
- USB-to-storage communication: Enables Windows to exchange commands and data with compatible ATA or ATAPI hardware connected through the bridge controller.
- Device recognition: Helps the operating system identify the controller correctly rather than leaving it listed as an unknown USB device.
- Storage access support: Works with Windows storage components so supported drives can become available for normal use, depending on their formatting and hardware configuration.
- Driver configuration: Provides the information Windows needs to associate the controller with the appropriate driver components.
How to Install
- Confirm the hardware and Windows version. Open Device Manager and locate the bridge controller, which may appear under USB controllers, storage controllers, or Other devices. Check its hardware IDs if needed, and confirm whether your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Select a matching driver. Use a package supplied by the manufacturer that lists support for your controller and operating system. Do not assume a driver intended for Windows 7 will also work on Windows 10 or Windows 11. Some configurations may use a driver already included with Windows.
- Prepare the connection. Connect the storage enclosure or adapter to a working USB port, preferably directly on the computer. If the attached drive requires external power, make sure its power supply is connected. Extract the downloaded files if they are compressed.
- Install the driver. Run the included installer and follow its instructions. If no installer is provided, right-click the controller in Device Manager, select Update driver, then choose Browse my computer for drivers and point Windows to the extracted folder.
- Check the result. Restart if prompted, then confirm that Device Manager shows no warning icon for the Melco USB ATA ATAPI Bridge Controller. If a connected disk does not appear in File Explorer, check Disk Management and the drive’s cables and power. Avoid initializing or formatting a disk that contains data you need to keep.
