The ADB Driver lets Windows recognize a compatible Android device for Android Debug Bridge (ADB) communication over USB. With the correct driver installed, developers and advanced users can run debugging commands, collect device logs, and transfer files through ADB tools. Choose a package from the manufacturer that matches your device and your version of Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7.

Key Features

  • ADB device recognition: Provides the USB interface Windows needs to detect a compatible Android phone, tablet, or other device in ADB mode.
  • Debugging support: Enables communication with Android SDK Platform-Tools for tasks such as testing apps, viewing logs, and running shell commands.
  • Command-line file transfer: Supports ADB push and pull operations between your computer and an authorized Android device.
  • Device management access: Allows supported ADB commands, including app installation and restarting into available device modes. Capabilities depend on the device and its security settings.

How to Install

  1. Check compatibility and download the driver. Confirm that the manufacturer’s package supports your Android device, Windows version, and system architecture. Extract the files if the download is compressed.
  2. Prepare your Android device. Enable Developer options, then turn on USB debugging. Connect the device directly to your PC with a USB cable that supports data transfer.
  3. Install the driver package. Run the included installer, if available, and follow its instructions. For a manual installation, open Device Manager, locate the Android device or unrecognized USB entry, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder.
  4. Authorize the connection. Keep the device unlocked and accept the USB debugging authorization prompt. Approve only computers you trust; this permission allows debugging access to your device.
  5. Verify ADB detection. Install Android SDK Platform-Tools separately if needed, open a terminal in its folder, and run `adb devices`. Your device should appear with the status `device`. If it shows `unauthorized`, check the device screen for the authorization prompt.

The ADB Driver does not include the ADB command-line tools, and it may not provide the separate driver interface required for Fastboot. If detection fails, try another data cable or USB port and check Device Manager for warning icons before reinstalling.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or Windows warns about the driver: Run the installer as administrator and temporarily disable driver signature enforcement if needed. In Device Manager, use “Have Disk” and point to the manufacturer’s ADB driver INF rather than a generic Android driver.
  • Device not detected: Enable Developer options and USB debugging, use a data-capable USB cable, connect directly to a rear USB port, and accept the USB debugging prompt. Reinstall the ADB Driver from Device Manager under “Android Device” or “Universal Serial Bus devices.”
  • Version conflicts after updates: Remove older Android ADB/USB drivers in Device Manager with hidden devices shown, uninstall duplicate SDK platform-tools if present, then install the latest manufacturer ADB Driver and reboot.
