Question 1

Install fails?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the driver matches Windows XP 32-bit or 64-bit. Use Device Manager > Update Driver > “Have Disk” and select the card’s INF file; don’t rely on a generic installer. Install Windows XP SP3 first, and choose “Continue Anyway” if an unsigned-driver warning appears.

Question 2

Card/drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the PCI card and try another PCI slot. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes and look for an unknown “Mass Storage Controller” or yellow warning icon. Check that the SATA data cable and drive power are firmly connected.

Question 3

Version conflicts/BSODs?

Accepted Answer

Remove old SATA/RAID controller entries and duplicate driver packages before installing the Maxtor SATA 150 driver. If a driver update causes boot failures, use Device Manager to roll back or boot into Last Known Good Configuration.
