Question 1

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

The WD5000AAKX is a SATA HDD and normally uses Windows’ built-in AHCI/ATA driver, not a WD driver package. Don’t force a generic WD driver; update the motherboard chipset/SATA AHCI driver instead.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port/power lead, and confirm the drive appears in BIOS/UEFI as WDC WD5000AAKX. If BIOS doesn’t see it, the drive or cable is likely faulty.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Old Intel RST/AMD SATA drivers can cause detection or spin-up errors. Roll back to Microsoft Standard SATA AHCI Controller or the correct vendor AHCI driver; avoid cross-flashing firmware on the 00ERMA0 model.
