Question 1

Install fails or setup exits early?

Accepted Answer

Use the correct 32/64-bit Windows package and run it as administrator. If it still fails, update via Device Manager or rely on Windows’ built-in IDE/ATA controller driver—the WD800BEVE is a 2.5-inch PATA drive and often needs no separate vendor driver.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check that BIOS sees the drive, verify the 44-pin IDE cable orientation and master/slave jumper, and confirm the adapter/enclosure provides enough power. Rescan disks in Disk Management.

Question 3

Version conflicts or BSOD after update?

Accepted Answer

Roll back the storage controller driver in Device Manager or remove the vendor package and return to the Microsoft standard IDE driver. Avoid mixing old Intel/AMD chipset storage drivers with the generic driver.
