Question 1

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

The WD500AVDS is a SATA hard drive and normally uses Windows 10’s native AHCI/storage driver, not a separate WD driver. If a package fails, install/update the motherboard chipset or SATA controller driver instead.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check SATA data and power cables, try another port, and confirm the BIOS/UEFI sees the drive. In Windows, open Disk Management and initialize/format a new or unallocated WD500AVDS.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Intel RST or AMD SATA drivers can conflict with Windows’ standard AHCI driver. If the drive disappears or errors appear after an update, roll back the storage controller driver or switch to Microsoft Standard AHCI, then reboot.
