Question 1

Install fails or drive not recognized after a driver update?

Accepted Answer

The WD3200BEVT is a SATA HDD and normally uses Windows’ standard AHCI/storage driver, not a WD-specific driver. Roll back the storage controller driver, reinstall the motherboard chipset/SATA AHCI driver, and reboot.

Question 2

Device not detected in Windows?

Accepted Answer

Check the SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port, and confirm the drive appears in BIOS/UEFI. If BIOS sees it but Windows doesn’t, open Disk Management and initialize/format the unallocated space.

Question 3

Version conflicts or BSODs after changing SATA mode?

Accepted Answer

Don’t switch IDE/AHCI mode after Windows is installed without the correct driver preparation. Remove old storage drivers, install the matching chipset AHCI driver, and avoid mixing generic and vendor packages.
