Question 1

Install fails or “WD SES Device” warning?

Accepted Answer

This WD20000H2NC uses Windows’ built-in USB mass-storage driver. Run any WD installer as administrator, disconnect other USB drives, and install the WD SES driver only if prompted. If setup still fails, use Device Manager > Update driver > Browse > let Windows choose.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Connect directly to a rear USB port (no hub), try a known-good USB cable, and confirm the power adapter/LED. Check Disk Management and rescan disks; initialize/assign a letter only if the disk is unallocated.

Question 3

Version conflicts/duplicate entries?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old WD SmartWare/SES entries in Device Manager and Programs and Features, reboot, then reconnect. Avoid installing multiple WD utilities; the drive’s Virtual CD entry is normal, not a driver failure.
