Author: Western Digital

Question 1

Install fails or no driver is found?

Accepted Answer

The WD1200BEVS is a standard 2.5" SATA drive and normally uses Windows’ built-in AHCI/SATA driver. Don’t force an unsigned or legacy driver; confirm the motherboard chipset SATA/AHCI driver is installed and let Windows detect the drive as storage.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the SATA data and power connections, try another SATA port, and confirm the BIOS/UEFI sees the drive. Set the SATA controller to AHCI, then use Disk Management to initialize and partition the drive if it appears as unallocated.

Question 3

Version conflicts or instability?

Accepted Answer

Remove old WD utilities, generic IDE drivers, or mismatched SATA drivers before updating. Use the OEM chipset AHCI driver for your Windows version, and do not flash firmware unless Western Digital specifically lists the WD1200BEVS.
