Question 1

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the WD10EARS appears in BIOS/UEFI. Reseat the SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port/power lead, and avoid USB-SATA adapters for initial setup. If BIOS sees it but Windows doesn’t, open Disk Management and initialize/partition the unallocated drive.

Question 2

Windows setup can’t find the drive?

Accepted Answer

Load the motherboard’s AHCI/SATA controller driver during setup if no disk is listed. Check that BIOS SATA mode (AHCI/IDE/RAID) matches the installed Windows configuration; changing modes after installation can cause boot errors.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

This SATA HDD normally uses Windows’ AHCI driver, not a WD device driver. Update the motherboard chipset/SATA driver instead. If WD SmartWare/Disk Manager errors occur, uninstall it, reboot, and install the latest version as administrator.
