Question 1

Installation fails or stalls?

Accepted Answer

Connect the WD10000H1CS directly to a rear USB 2.0 port, not a hub. Run any WD installer or firmware updater as administrator, and verify the model before flashing; wrong-model firmware will fail.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the external power adapter and USB cable, try another PC/port, then open Disk Management. If the disk appears without a letter, assign one. If it shows unallocated, initialize/partition only after confirming no data is needed.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Windows normally uses the built-in USB mass storage driver. Remove old WD SmartWare/Drive Manager or duplicate storage drivers, reboot, and reconnect. Avoid generic USB drivers; let Windows reinstall the native driver.
