Question 1

Install fails?

Accepted Answer

The WD6400AAKS is a SATA hard drive, so Windows uses the motherboard’s ATA/AHCI controller driver—not a separate WD drive driver. If setup fails, install the correct chipset/SATA driver and match the SATA mode (IDE/AHCI) in BIOS.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check SATA data/power cables, confirm the drive appears in BIOS, then look in Disk Management for an uninitialized or unlettered disk; initialize/assign a letter if needed.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Don’t force an incompatible Intel/AMD AHCI driver over the Windows inbox driver. If errors start after an update, roll back the storage controller in Device Manager and keep 32/64-bit driver versions matched to Windows.
