Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The WD20EARS is a SATA hard drive and normally uses Windows’ built-in AHCI/ATA driver. Don’t force a generic “WD driver”; update the SATA controller in Device Manager or install the correct Intel/AMD chipset driver.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check both SATA data and power cables, try another port, confirm BIOS/UEFI sees the disk, and keep SATA mode consistent (AHCI/IDE). In Windows, open Disk Management to initialize or assign a drive letter.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Third-party RAID/RST packages can conflict with standard ATA drivers. Uninstall them, revert the SATA controller to Microsoft Standard AHCI, and reboot before rescanning hardware.
