Question 1

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port, and confirm the drive appears in BIOS. In Windows, open Disk Management and initialize/format a new drive if needed. Set the correct SATA mode (AHCI or IDE) before booting.

Question 2

Install fails during Windows setup?

Accepted Answer

Windows may lack the storage controller driver. Load the matching Intel RST/AMD SATA driver, or use the Microsoft AHCI driver. For older Windows XP installs, slipstream the AHCI driver first.

Question 3

Version conflicts or instability?

Accepted Answer

Remove outdated chipset storage drivers before installing the correct AHCI driver. Do not treat WD utilities as drivers. If the disk drops or BSODs, revert to Microsoft Standard AHCI and verify 4K alignment on this Advanced Format drive.
