Question 1

Device not detected or drive missing in File Explorer?

Accepted Answer

Try a different USB port/cable, avoid unpowered hubs, and check Disk Management for an unassigned drive letter. Initialize/format only if the drive is new or backed up.

Question 2

Driver install fails or shows an error?

Accepted Answer

The WD My Passport 071A normally uses Windows’ built-in USB mass storage driver. Uninstall the device in Device Manager, reconnect it, and avoid forcing an old WD installer on Windows 10/11.

Question 3

Version conflicts or error codes (e.g., Code 10/43)?

Accepted Answer

Remove duplicate/old WD driver entries and outdated WD software, update motherboard USB/chipset drivers, then reconnect. Check WD’s official firmware/tool only if the drive is otherwise recognized.
