Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Disconnect the My Passport 070A, run any WD installer as administrator, and avoid compatibility mode. If setup still fails, cancel it and let Windows use the built-in USB Mass Storage driver; update motherboard USB/chipset drivers.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Try a direct rear USB port and a known-good cable, not a hub. In Disk Management, check for an offline or unallocated disk; in Device Manager, uninstall any yellow-bang USB entry and rescan for hardware.

Question 3

Driver version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove older WD SmartWare/SES or third-party USB drivers for this device via Device Manager, selecting “Delete the driver software,” then reboot. Do not force a legacy driver—My Passport 070A normally uses Windows’ current USB mass-storage stack.
