Name: WD My Book Device Driver
Author: Western Digital

Question 1

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the My Book power adapter and use a direct rear USB port, not a hub. In Device Manager, uninstall the disk under Disk Drives, reconnect the drive, and rescan for hardware.

Question 2

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

Run the Western Digital installer as administrator, temporarily disable antivirus, and confirm Windows compatibility. If setup still fails, install the latest My Book support software directly from Western Digital.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove older WD software and any duplicate USB mass-storage drivers via Apps & Features and Device Manager. Reboot before installing the current WD package; avoid third-party driver updaters that may install mismatched versions.
