Question 1

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

Run the manufacturer’s installer as administrator and match it to your Windows version. If Windows blocks the driver, check signature requirements or use the vendor-signed package, then unplug and reconnect the USB AutoTap.

Question 2

Device not detected / COM4 missing?

Accepted Answer

Check Device Manager for an unknown USB serial device. Try a known-good USB cable and port, reinstall the driver, then scan for hardware changes. If COM4 is assigned to another device, release or reassign it in Port Settings.

Question 3

Version conflicts or COM4 busy?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the old AutoTap driver in Device Manager, select “Delete the driver software,” reboot, and install the latest version. Close any application using COM4 and confirm the correct port, baud rate, and flow control before reconnecting.
