The Unibrain FireBoard Blue driver enables Windows to communicate with the board’s IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface. It helps the operating system recognize the hardware and supports communication with compatible FireWire devices. Choose a driver package intended for your board and Windows version before installing.
Key Features
- IEEE 1394 connectivity: Provides driver support for the FireBoard Blue interface so Windows can use its FireWire connections.
- Hardware recognition: Helps identify and configure the Unibrain board correctly in Device Manager.
- Device communication: Supports data exchange through the board with compatible IEEE 1394 equipment; some connected devices may require their own drivers or software.
- Windows version options: Driver support covers Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, and XP through appropriate packages. Check each package’s compatibility details, including whether it supports your system’s 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
How to Install
- Check your hardware and operating system. Confirm that your board is a Unibrain FireBoard Blue, then identify your Windows version and system architecture. Select a matching driver rather than assuming one package supports every listed OS.
- Download and prepare the driver. Save the compatible package to a local folder. If it is compressed, extract the contents before continuing. Review any included instructions for board-specific requirements.
- Run the installer. If the package includes a setup program, launch it with administrator permissions and follow the prompts. Follow the supplied instructions regarding when to install or connect the hardware.
- Use Device Manager if manual installation is required. Locate the board or its unrecognized hardware entry, choose the option to update its driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder. Menu wording varies between Windows versions.
- Restart and verify operation. Reboot if prompted, then check Device Manager for warning icons. Connect a compatible FireWire device and test it with the appropriate application. If the board is not recognized, recheck the package compatibility and hardware connection before attempting another installation.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Installer fails or is blocked: Run the Unibrain setup as Administrator and reboot before retrying. On Windows 10/11, temporarily disable Driver Signature Enforcement if the package is rejected; the FireBoard Blue’s legacy 1394 driver may not be WHQL-signed.
- FireBoard Blue not detected: Reseat the card, confirm the 1394 controller appears in Device Manager, and check that the IEEE 1394 host controller is enabled in BIOS. Try a different FireWire cable/port and avoid front-panel headers if used.
- Driver version conflicts: Uninstall any existing Unibrain or Microsoft 1394 driver, select “Delete the driver software,” reboot, then install the matching FireBoard Blue package. Do not mix legacy Unibrain and Windows 1394 OHCI drivers.
