Question 1

Install fails on modern Windows?

Accepted Answer

The Astra 1200S uses legacy 32-bit drivers that may block on 64-bit Windows 10/11. Run the installer in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, or add the scanner manually via Device Manager > Add legacy hardware. Temporarily disable driver signature enforcement if prompted.

Question 2

Scanner not detected?

Accepted Answer

For SCSI models, verify the SCSI ID is unique, termination is correct, and the scanner is powered on before boot. Confirm the SCSI host adapter driver is installed. For parallel/USB adapters, check the correct port and cable.

Question 3

Version conflicts/TWAIN errors?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old UMAX or TWAIN drivers via Programs and Features, reboot, then install the Astra 1200S driver. In your imaging software, set the UMAX Astra 1200S as the default TWAIN source.
