The Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller driver lets Windows communicate with a compatible Texas Instruments FireWire controller. This Microsoft-provided driver supports the connection between your computer and IEEE 1394 devices, such as digital video camcorders, external storage drives, and certain audio interfaces.
Key Features
- FireWire controller support: Enables Windows to recognize and operate compatible Texas Instruments OHCI-compliant IEEE 1394 hardware.
- Peripheral connectivity: Provides the host-controller interface used by connected FireWire equipment. Some peripherals, especially audio interfaces, may also require their own manufacturer-supplied drivers.
- Windows integration: Works with Windows device-management tools so you can check controller status, review driver details, and troubleshoot connection problems through Device Manager.
- Support across Windows versions: Driver options are available for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, and XP. Choose a package that explicitly supports your operating system and its 32-bit or 64-bit architecture; one package may not cover every version.
How to Install
- Confirm your hardware and Windows version. Open Device Manager and look under “IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers” for the Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller. If it appears as an unknown device, check its hardware IDs before selecting a driver.
- Select a compatible driver. Use a Microsoft driver package intended for your Windows version and system architecture. Windows may already include a suitable driver, so check Windows Update or Device Manager before installing a separate download.
- Prepare the downloaded files. Extract the package if it is compressed. Close applications that use FireWire equipment, such as video-capture or audio-recording software, before proceeding.
- Update the controller driver. In Device Manager, right-click the controller and select the driver-update option. Choose to browse your computer for driver software, then point Windows to the extracted folder. Follow the prompts; wording varies between Windows versions.
- Restart and verify operation. Restart if prompted, then check that the controller has no warning icon in Device Manager. Reconnect a compatible FireWire device according to its manufacturer’s instructions and test it in the appropriate application.
If the controller works but a connected device does not, check the FireWire cable, peripheral power, and any device-specific software requirements before replacing the controller driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or device shows Code 10/43: In Device Manager, uninstall the existing IEEE 1394 controller and any third-party FireWire driver, restart, and let Windows reinstall the Microsoft OHCI 1394 driver. Run setup as administrator and check Windows Update for the signed driver.
- Device not detected: Confirm the IEEE 1394/FireWire controller is enabled in BIOS/UEFI and not disabled in Device Manager. Try another FireWire cable or port, power-cycle the external device, and avoid unpowered hubs.
- Version/driver conflicts: Remove older Texas Instruments/1394 drivers before installing this one, and do not force-install a non-OHCI driver. If
