Author: Synaptics

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the Synaptics installer as administrator, disconnect other pointing devices, and remove any existing Synaptics/Precision TouchPad driver in Device Manager before rebooting and reinstalling.

Question 2

TouchPad not detected?

Accepted Answer

Try another USB port, check BIOS/UEFI for a disabled touchpad or USB setting, and look for hidden devices in Device Manager. Confirm the hardware ID matches the downloaded Synaptics package.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Windows Update may replace the OEM Synaptics driver with a generic one. Roll back to the Synaptics driver, reinstall the correct OEM version, or temporarily pause automatic driver updates until installation completes.
