Name: Synaptics TouchPad Driver
Author: Synaptics

Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the existing Synaptics TouchPad driver in Device Manager first, reboot, then run the installer as administrator. If it still fails, extract the package and update the driver manually via Device Manager.

Question 2

TouchPad not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check that it is enabled with the laptop’s Fn touchpad key and in Synaptics Control Panel. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes; if missing, uninstall any hidden Synaptics/HID touchpad entries and reboot.

Question 3

Version conflicts or missing settings?

Accepted Answer

Windows Update or a generic driver may replace the OEM Synaptics package. Use Device Manager > Roll Back Driver or uninstall with “Delete driver software,” reboot, and install the matching version from your PC manufacturer. Avoid mixing Precision Touchpad and legacy Synaptics drivers.
