Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

A generic Synaptics package may not match your laptop’s OEM hardware ID. Uninstall the existing touchpad driver in Device Manager (check “Delete the driver software”), reboot, then install the OEM-approved Synaptics driver for your exact model.

Question 2

Touchpad not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm it is enabled in BIOS/UEFI and not disabled by a function key or Windows Settings. In Device Manager, check for a hidden/unknown device and reinstall the Synaptics driver; test with an external mouse if needed.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

Windows may replace the OEM driver with a generic one, breaking gestures or scrolling. Roll back in Device Manager, then set the OEM Synaptics driver as preferred and pause/block automatic driver updates for that device.
