Author: SMSC

Question 1

Install fails or driver won’t load?

Accepted Answer

The SMC2208USB ETH package may be unsigned or incompatible with 64-bit Windows. Download the correct x86/x64 build, right-click the INF and choose Install, or temporarily disable driver signature enforcement; reboot after install.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check Device Manager under Network adapters or as an Unknown USB Device. Try a rear USB 2.0 port directly on the PC, reseat or replace the USB cable, and confirm the Ethernet link LEDs.

Question 3

Version conflict with an existing SMSC/USB Ethernet driver?

Accepted Answer

Windows may keep an older or generic driver. Uninstall the old SMC/SMSC adapter driver, select “Delete the driver software,” rescan hardware, then install the downloaded package and reboot.
