Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the SMC setup as Administrator, temporarily disable antivirus, and reboot before retrying. If setup still fails, extract the package and install the `.inf` via Device Manager > Update driver > Browse.

Question 2

Adapter not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a direct USB 2.0 port, not a hub. Check Device Manager for an unknown/network device, uninstall any ghost USB entries, then rescan. Confirm the adapter LED is lit.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall any previous SMC utility/driver and other USB wireless adapter software, reboot, then install the package matching Windows version/architecture. If Windows installed a generic driver, roll it back or uninstall it before reinstalling the SMC driver.
