Question 1

Install fails or is blocked?

Accepted Answer

On modern Windows the legacy SigmaTel INF may be unsigned or incompatible. Run the installer as administrator, use Compatibility Mode for the Windows version the driver targets, and only if trusted temporarily disable driver signature enforcement. Reboot before retrying.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check Device Manager for “Unknown USB Device” or an IrDA entry. Try a rear USB 2.0 port, reseat the dongle, and confirm it appears in USB controllers. Remove any failed install under View > Show hidden devices, then rescan.

Question 3

Version/driver conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Multiple IrDA stacks or a newer Microsoft IrDA driver can take over. Uninstall other IrDA/USB-serial dongles and existing SigmaTel entries, delete the old driver package, install the matching SigmaTel INF, and reboot before plugging the dongle back in.
