Question 1

Install fails or “Unknown device”?

Accepted Answer

The ST9120822AS is a SATA HDD and uses Windows’ standard AHCI/ATA driver or your motherboard chipset driver—not a separate Seagate package. Install the correct SATA/AHCI driver from the PC or motherboard vendor, and confirm BIOS SATA mode (AHCI/IDE/RAID) matches Windows.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check SATA data and power cables, try another port/cable, and confirm BIOS sees the disk. In Windows, open Disk Management to initialize/assign a drive letter if the disk is unallocated.

Question 3

Version conflicts or BSOD after storage-driver update?

Accepted Answer

Roll back the AHCI/RAID driver in Device Manager or return to Windows’ standard SATA AHCI driver. Avoid switching AHCI/RAID modes without matching driver changes.
