Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back on Windows 10/11?

Accepted Answer

The legacy Maxtor Shared Storage Manager may not support current Windows. Run the installer as administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode, temporarily disable antivirus, and if setup still fails use the NAS web interface instead.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the Maxtor NAS and PC are on the same subnet, enable Network Discovery and File/Printer Sharing, and allow SMB traffic through Windows Firewall. Try accessing it by IP address (e.g., `\192.168.x.x`) instead of by hostname.

Question 3

Version/SMB conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Older Maxtor Shared Storage units may rely on SMBv1, which modern Windows disables. Prefer firmware/software updates and UNC paths; only re-enable the SMBv1 client if the NAS cannot be updated, and disable it again afterward.
