Name: Seagate Desktop HDD ST31000528AS Driver
Author: Seagate

Question 1

Install fails or drive not listed during Windows setup?

Accepted Answer

The ST31000528AS is a SATA HDD and normally needs no Seagate driver. Load the motherboard’s AHCI/SATA controller driver if Setup cannot see it, and check BIOS mode (AHCI vs RAID/IDE).

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port, and confirm BIOS/UEFI shows the ST31000528AS model. Avoid USB-SATA adapters for OS installation.

Question 3

SATA driver version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Do not overwrite Windows’ native SATA driver with an older Intel RST/AMD driver. Use the chipset driver matching your motherboard; if errors start after an update, roll back the SATA controller driver in Device Manager and rescan.
