Question 1

Installer fails or hangs?

Accepted Answer

The AV8R 01 package is old; run setup as Administrator and try Windows 7/XP compatibility mode. Temporarily disable antivirus, and don’t connect the joystick until the installer prompts.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a rear USB 2.0 port directly on the PC, not a hub. In Device Manager, check for “Unknown device” or HID entries, then unplug/replug and scan for hardware changes. Avoid USB 3.0 ports if detection is intermittent.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall existing Saitek/Mad Catz software and remove old driver entries in Device Manager (right-click > Uninstall device, tick “Delete driver software”). Reboot, then install only the AV8R 01 package; don’t mix newer Saitek drivers with legacy AV8R files.
