Name: Rockwell Automation USBCIP Device Driver
Author: Rockwell

Question 1

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

Use the USB CIP driver bundled with a compatible RSLinx Classic or Studio 5000 release; run the installer as administrator. If Windows reports an unsigned or incompatible driver, remove the old “Rockwell Automation USBCIP Device” entry in Device Manager (including driver software) and reinstall the matching Rockwell package.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a data-capable USB cable directly to the PC, not a charge-only cable or unpowered hub. Power-cycle the controller, then check RSLinx for the USB CIP path. Confirm the controller’s USB port is enabled.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Mismatched RSLinx/Studio 5000 and controller firmware can prevent the USB CIP driver from loading. Check Rockwell’s compatibility matrix, uninstall conflicting USB CIP drivers, and install the version certified for your controller firmware.
