Name: RealTek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter Driver
Author: Alfa

Question 1

Install fails or is blocked?

Accepted Answer

The RTL8187 package is old and may lack Windows 10/11 signatures. Run the installer as administrator, use compatibility mode for Windows 7, and if Windows blocks it, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement only for installation; re-enable afterward.

Question 2

Adapter not detected?

Accepted Answer

Try a rear USB 2.0 port directly, not a hub/USB 3.0 port. In Device Manager, check for unknown devices, uninstall any yellow-marked entry, scan for hardware changes, and confirm the adapter’s LED powers on.

Question 3

Version/driver conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove existing Realtek Wi-Fi drivers and Alfa utility first, reboot, then install one matching RTL8187 driver package. Avoid mixing vendor utility and Windows WLAN management; disable Windows USB power saving for the adapter if it drops.
