Question 1

Install fails or shows Code 10/28?

Accepted Answer

uninstall any existing Prolific PL2303 driver and related COM-port entries in Device Manager, reboot, then run the correct PL2303 Windows installer as administrator. Avoid mixing old and new driver packages.

Question 2

Cable not detected/no COM port?

Accepted Answer

test a different USB port and cable; check Device Manager for “Unknown device” or entries under Ports (COM & LPT). Uninstall the device, rescan, and confirm the PL2303 appears.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Windows Update may replace the driver with a generic/newer PL2303 version that does not support older chips. Roll back or manually select the vendor-supported driver for your chip revision; also close apps holding the COM port.
